High Temperature Furnaces The control of temperature in high temperature furnaces is critical. Temperature variation with time and within the furnace should be limited to ±10F. The time variation is controlled by the furnace controller’s response to thermocouple data. Having a controlling thermocouple near a furnace wall is typical. The depth of insertion and location of the thermocouple in relation to the heating elements or radiant tubes are important factors in determining if the temperature reading will be higher or lower than the temperature of the load.
