Malaysia's National Automotive Policy Promotes Price Cut Benefiting 72.5% of Customers

In the final performance report of Malaysian National Automotive Policy 2014 (NAP) released by Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysian total automotive sales reaches 666.465 thousand units, up 1.63% from 2013. In the past 2 years all sorts of Malaysian cars dropped 12% in average price. The average price dropped 5% in 2013 and 7% in 2014, benefiting 72.5% of customers.
Take Malaysian top car maker Proton for example, its car model "Proton Saga" dropped 13% in price. Perodua Kancil, the 2nd largest Malaysian car maker, dropped 11% in the price of model "Myvi". Japanese Honda dropped 17% in the price of model "Jazz". The Malaysian government hopes to lower average price by 20% by 2017. The government will establish an automotive industry council led by Ministry of International Trade and Industry, with members across government and industry representatives. The council will be a good platform to understanding the industry's opinions and feedback to automotive policies. The council plans to hold the first meeting before the end of March.
