India's Export Tariffs Adjustment Could Impact China's Steel Products Export in 2023

Due to the weak external demand and lowered price advantage, the volume and price of China's steel exports have gone downwards since the second half of 2022; the rise in China's domestic steel prices and the appreciation of RMB in November 2022 continues to put pressure on steel exports in the short term.

China Iron and Steel Industry Association (CISA) said that the Indian government passed a bill on November 18, 2022 to abolish export tariffs on iron ore and certain steel products, and accordingly, Indian export resources will regain a share in the international market. Although the short-term impact is limited, there could be a certain impact on China's steel exports in 2023.
