The cost of Canada’s net-zero carbon emissions goal is complex and significant, totaling over USD503 billion—about USD12,062 per person on average. This figure covers federal and provincial climate initiatives across 364 programs. Experts warn net-zero policies by 2050 could reduce GDP by 6.2% and cause loss of 254,000 jobs. Although consumer carbon taxes have been scrapped by the government, new industrial carbon tax measures under the "Climate Competitiveness Strategy" are coming. Canada’s 2030 emission reduction targets face major challenges, with official estimates for annual net-zero investments between USD125 billion and USD140 billion. Advocates stress that failing to act on climate change will cause greater economic damage, while green investments create new opportunities. Global emissions reduction remains slow; Canada accounts for less than 2% of global emissions, limiting the impact of national efforts. By 2030, climate policies are estimated to cost Canada nearly 1% of GDP.
