The Baipu Industrial Park, located on the border of Gangshan and Ciaotou Districts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, officially broke ground on September 21. Covering approximately 88.73 hectares, the park is positioned as a hub for semiconductor advanced equipment and materials verification as well as AI advanced manufacturing. The development is expected to create new opportunities for Kaohsiung’s established fastener, metalworking and precision machinery industries to upgrade and enter higher-value semiconductor, AI server components and high-precision components supply chains. Under the current plan, approximately 25 hectares in the southern section will accommodate TSMC and related suppliers, including two R&D and testing centers. In the northern section, ASE is planning 2 new facilities focused on advanced packaging and AI server-related applications. The park is expected to attract more than 20 semiconductor-related companies.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-Mai emphasized that the city's strengths in metalworking, fasteners, thermal management, and precision machinery also provide a strong foundation for developing semiconductor equipment and AI server supply chains. Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs said Baipu will be connected with the Nanzih Science Park and other technology industrial parks to strengthen the regional semiconductor cluster. The Kaohsiung City Government also plans to leverage the existing metalworking and machinery clusters in Gangshan and Benjhou, promoting cooperation among end users, R&D resources and industrial park facilities, including technology verification and digital twin applications.

For fastener manufacturers, the significance of Baipu extends beyond the development of another industrial park. It could provide a pathway for companies to upgrade existing manufacturing capabilities and develop high-precision components, equipment structural parts and specialized metalworking products for semiconductor and AI applications. According to current plans, the park will progressively enter phases such as factory construction by tenants and the launch of testing centers starting in 2027; it is expected to transform into a technology industrial park by 2028, with standard factory buildings and third-party testing centers coming online by 2029. For the Gangshan fastener industry, the coming years represent a critical window for observing the formation of the industrial cluster, identifying supply chain collaboration opportunities, and driving the shift toward high-value products.
